The 2016 My Little Black Dress Gala will be held at Infinity Hall, Downtown Hartford on October 30th. Proceeds from LBD support the Foundation’s flagship Legacy Exposure and Access Program (LEAP) and our program encouraging respect and healthy relationships, the Anna Keise Project. We are doing the ‘heavy lifting’ of helping our youth build a solid foundation for future success. Our academic enrichment program for 50 students incorporates a daily after school curriculum with teachers focused on supplementing the core subjects of Math, Language Arts and Science with a variety of purposeful and experiential learning opportunities.
LEAP is truly a truly unique program that provides comprehensive, holistic support to our scholars. We foster academic advancement and personal growth to support our scholars to become self-motivated, resilient, successful and respectful young adults. Additionally, teaching respect and encouraging positive relationships is core to our program and our Anna Keise Project. Unlike other Hartford-area programs, LEAP takes all comers. We believe in supporting all students. We believe talent is universal, but opportunities are not. Our main focus is to create the platform for opportunities for our youth and their families. All kids need a chance.
We look forward to seeing you on October 30th to continue building on our successes.
GUEST MUSICAL PERFORMER
Black Violin is an American hip hop duo from Florida composed of two classically trained string instrumentalists, Kevin Sylvester and Wilner Baptiste, who go by the stage names Kev Marcus and Wil B. Kev Marcus plays the violin and Wil B. plays the viola. They met in high school, went to different colleges, then later reconvened to create the musical group Black Violin. The duo plays a variety of music (relying heavily upon classical music), but are often categorized as hip hop because of the changes to the rhythm and beats. This mingling of hip hop and classical sensibilities is what is generally thought to give them their distinctive style.
